At the messy play sessions, the Wee Baby Blethers are encouraged to interact together and to express themselves by using their imaginations to explore all the 'messy' stuff around them. Their co-ordination and motoring skills improve increasing their strength and physical development. For example, using a crayon or paintbrush will help their ability to write and use a pen as they get older. Messing around with sand and play dough will help develop muscle tone. Literary and mathematic skills will be enhanced by experimenting with different shapes, letters and colours.

As messy play is not focused on making something in particular, this leaves the children free to explore all possibilities and enjoy the creative process. With the parents watching and listening to their child's explorations and inventions, this promotes a sense of security and also increases the child's confidence by knowing their parent is nearby.

These skills are all enhanced and developed further as the children become Crafty Wee Blethers and are involved in more focussed crafts. By this time they develop concentration and problem solving and have increased confidence and self-esteem as they take pride in what they have achieved. They also experience team spirit by working together and sharing ideas and materials. Return to Home Page
